Urea Breath Test Helicobacter pylori Instruction

  1. The subjects should fast for 4-6 hours before the test. Take one urea carbon 14 tablet with about 120ml of warm water.
  2. Wait for about 10-20 minutes (no strenuous exercise).
  3. Open the outer packaging of the acquisition card and the air-blowing nozzle, take out the acquisition card and the air-blowing nozzle in turn, and insert the air-blowing nozzle into the front end of the acquisition card.
  4. The subject holds the front end of the blowing nozzle in his mouth and blows air into the card. The blowing should be steady and the air in the lungs should be blown out as much as possible. You can breathe during the blowing process, but inhalation is strictly prohibited!!
  5. Blow air (about 3-5 minutes), stop blowing when the indicator in the acquisition card indicator window changes from blue to white. If the color change is incomplete after over 3 minutes, you can stop blowing. Currently, the acquisition card has been saturated and will not affect the test results.
  6. Put the nozzle into the trash can give the collection card to the medical staff and wait for the test results.

What does Helicobacter breath smell like?

Helicobacter pylori refers to Helicobacter pylori. Under normal circumstances, it is normal for Helicobacter pylori to blow white. The specific analysis is as follows:
Helicobacter pylori below refers to the carbon 14 breath test. Since there is no urease in the human body, a urea capsule is taken before the test to produce carbon dioxide through urease decomposition. Once the gas is detected, it means that there is urease in the stomach. The carbon 14 breath test is a test method used to determine whether there is Helicobacter pylori infection by breathing and blowing. If you are accidentally infected with Helicobacter pylori, the body will produce urease, which will decompose into urea, and urea will form carbon dioxide, which will be excreted from the body with breathing. Finally, the infection of Helicobacter pylori is determined based on the carbon dioxide content in the breath. If you are infected with Helicobacter pylori, your breath may appear yellow. If you are not infected with Helicobacter pylori, the breath may appear white. Although the color can indicate the possibility of Helicobacter pylori infection, the color change cannot determine whether the test is positive. It needs to be judged in combination with specific values. If the carbon dioxide content in the breath exceeds 100 in the carbon 14 breath test, it is a positive result; otherwise, it is a negative result.

What are the side effects of the Helicobacter breath test?

The Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) breath test is generally safe and non-invasive, but there are some potential side effects or precautions:

  1. Mild gastrointestinal discomfort: Everyone is different, and some people may experience bloating or flatulence after ingesting the urea solution used in the test.
  2. Allergic reaction: Although this is rare, some people may have an allergic reaction to the urea solution or other ingredients.
  3. False results: Certain medications, especially antibiotics and proton pump inhibitors, can affect the accuracy of the test.
  4. Breath test specific: There are no serious side effects, but if you feel seriously uncomfortable or have unusual symptoms, it is best to consult a healthcare provider.
